How to Maintain Gorgeous Landscaping, Year-Round

Yards help make a statement in the neighborhood and a well-maintained yard shows that you take care of the property and give it the attention it deserves. A yard should be an oasis or a place of retreat. However, keeping a yard looking great requires extensive time and attention to detail, and maintaining it year round requires dedication. As a property manager, it’s important to keep your yards looking well-groomed during every season of the year.

Spring yard care:

Springtime is one of the most beautiful times of year – everything is blooming and the sun is starting to shine for longer periods of time. The grass is growing faster, plants are starting to produce blooms, and leaves are beginning to come back. During the spring, you’ll need to take great care to prevent overgrowth and weeds. This includes weeding, regular lawn mowing, edging along driveways, walkways, and sidewalks. In addition, it’s important to fertilize the plants and grass after the long winter months, as the cold weather will deplete valuable nutrients.

Summer yard care:

The summer months can be brutally hot, and that can wreak havoc on the grass, shrubs, and surrounding plants. During the summer, it’s not only important to mow the lawn, but it’s also vital that you water your plants and grass to keep everything alive and healthy. Furthermore, insect and pest control in the summer is something to be aware of, as some pests come out as soon as the summer weather begins. Watch out for lawn moths sod webworms, grub worms, and Japanese beetles, as these all can kill lawns extremely fast.

Autumn yard care:

The fall months are the perfect time to enjoy the cool weather and prepare for the upcoming cold months of winter. The grass will still be growing during the fall, but it won’t be growing as quickly. Mow weekly and be sure that you remove any dead or weak tree limbs or branches that may fall and cause damage during the wind, rain, or snow that will happen once autumn and winter weather hits. It’s also okay to fertilize the grass during this time so it’s ready to tackle the chilly, icy days of winter.

Winter yard care:

Be sure to rake fallen leaves and remove debris that builds up after heavy rain or snow storms. In addition, try to minimize foot traffic, as build up and trampling of the ground can stifle the amount of oxygen your grass is getting.
